Some old-school monsters that rarely get any love are the crawling-then flying killer brain creatures in the classic 1958 British-Canadian sci-fi thriller Fiend Without A Face. Saw this as a kid back in the early '80s one Saturday afternoon, and it scared the heck out of me,because it's a genuinely creepy movie in some parts. What impressed me about the creatures is how accurately they're made (they look like actual brains, with actual spinal cords and all that.) One of the creepiest parts of the film is when a bunch of them break through a screen door to get at the main characters, and straight up fly right at folks and start choking them. They do get taken out by bullets, though.
Ha ha ha! That was a good sermon there! From what I've heard about the latest Godzilla,it's the true GZ us kaiju fans have finally been blessed with (it actually got some decent reviews, that is,for a kaiju flick.) I will give the 2014 Godzilla reboot some credit for not only tying itself directly to the historical kaiju genre, but for being a pretty good homage to the Godzilla films itself. Plus it was pretty good, and entertaining too.
Hey,so am I. Grew up on Godzilla films, and can't wait to catch the latest one on DVD----it didn't play anywhere near me,and left the theatre before I could catch it. This is a space where we can all happily geek out on and about kaiju films, lol. So just get your geek on all you want here anytime you feel like it,lol.
What does FF mean, and what's the film about?
Yeah,Tremors was another good monster flick with an old school feel. Why it didn't get more hype when it came out,I never understood. Worth watching though, because it's funny, and just plain damn fun to watch. Been years since I've seen it though. Caught the sequel not too long after that, which had even more monsters and was also fun.
Pumpkinhead's a good film,with a nice old-school feel to it,and a good monster,too.
Forgot to mention that Suture was released on Blu Ray last year. There's reviews of it ( links to them on the old IMDB of course.)
The film is called Suture (1993) and it features a then-unknown Dennis Haysbert (of 24 and The Unit tv series fame---he also starred in another good drama called Love Field that same year.) Surprisingly, I've still never seen this flick, even though I love indie films from any era. Thanks for reminding me of it,lol. I hate that the boards are gone.
They could have just stopped people from posting and left the boards there, instead of just erasing everything liked it never existed. I hate that---after 15 years of happily posting on IMDB, I'm still going through withdrawal symptoms, lol. I'll live, though. Thanks goodness for small new spaces and places like this to quietly discuss films and have a good old time doing it.
