I can't argue with the gameplay in HL2, that element alone at least sells it. But I remember when I first saw HL1 loaded onto a PC at the electronics store in 1999 and pestered my parents to buy me a PC just to play that game. I loved the atmosphere, the underground setting, the adrenaline rush, the extraordinary AI for its time. But I suppose after Opposing Force and Blue Shift, the creators felt they'd milked the Black Mesa base for all it was worth? I'd like to give HL2 another go at least. I only even played it on the PS3, but my console died before I was able to finish it. I'll download it from Steam sometime. That "for some reason" you describe can be summed up by IW's heightened and unyielding sense of urgency. It hooks you in from the start and never lets go. Everything from the direction, the lean editing, and especially Silvestri's masterful score contribute to how effective the film turned out. I know Marvel movies get a lot of flack for being the "fast food" of modern cinema, but there's real movie magic happening in IW. Even a franchise newbie could appreciate it. Endgame is good, but it's weighed down by its own self-aware sense of grandiosity, and its groan-inducing need to pander to fans of other franchise entries like CM, it becomes overwhelmingly bloated, and consequently becomes a slightly weaker film than IW. I hear you. I crushed hard on her back in her SW days, and I still find her agonisingly beautiful from that era. And her photoshoots have often been knockouts. But like you said, there's something off about her persona. Like there's something missing. It could be a weird sort of aloofness, which makes her hard to read. She's fairly bright, but seems to lack that level of self-awareness that's deprecating. She's just kind of... there. I thought Season 3 was so mesmerisingly awful, I fell in love with it! Definitely a "so bad, it's good" slab of television. It reminded me of the Hannibal series. It has a big moon. Not to mention Tracee was an employee of the Bing, and didn't do a damn thing to deserve the sort of cruel punishment dished out by Ralphie. No doubt it was more territorial from Tony's part. Yet he seems to adore some of the most baffling things like anything Mike Flanigan directs. Aside from Doctor Sleep, I can't stand anything else that pretentious quack conjures up. I noticed it was highly rated on IMDb in its first week of release in overseas markets. But the rating plummeted dramatically as soon as it was released in the US. Are American viewers just more harsh, unforgiving and judgy of these sorts of films than Asia-Pacific viewers are? Pfft, this is the same rag that gave Independence Day Resurgence four stars. The Emmys are probably more relevant to what people actually watch now. I look forward to them more than the Oscars these days. Getting rid of film grain is the worst idea! And it definitely isn't what 4K UHD was meant to do, despite that T2 release. The goal is to remaster films in a higher resolution format to ensure its accuracy. And that means preserving the film grain, which basically is the image. "Thirdly, a decent Blu-Ray DVD player can be prohibitively expensive, and regular DVD's cannot be played on them." This is actually not true. Firstly, a blu-ray player can be procured for at least $70. Secondly, all blu-ray players, and the 4K UHD players, are backwards compatible, meaning they can play DVDs. It'll probably be humans who somehow bugger everything up and force Kong against Godzilla by circumstance. It's like they're making these SJW updates on existing IPs because the feminists on Twitter have been stamping their feet for it. But they end up not bothering to go see it, maybe because all they wanted was to checkbox their "reprethentaythun" quota and wreck everything the males like? I dunno. She just sees an imposing looking man and assumes the worst. Hopper's really just a gentle but temperamental guy who struggles with expressing himself. As if Netflix invented the fast forward function! Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he sees what I brung him! You're spot on about the political agenda point! The reviewer spent a fair bit of page space attacking the film for portraying an environmentalist character as a villian. I suspect this reviewer hated Kingsman: The Secret Service too. People will come here in droves and leave IMDb to rot. Hopefully though they found out about it. We seem to have found it.
