I joined here I think it was the night before IMDB comments closed down. Just like on IMDB haven't posted much in latter years due to work schedule and being busy in general but I do lurk on here every now and then. Loving this place but forcing myself to manage how long I spend on here at a time because I can spend hours just reading through comments in turn getting distracted. When I get more spare time I want to try and post at least 2 or 3 comments every day and contribute more. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2001, Insidious and Predator 2. I'm one of those. I only found out about this place by chance a few hours before IMDB closed down via a link from a regular poster. I don't think I would have made the effort to search for an alternative had I not made that final visit to one of my favourite message boards. If certain films get discussed in the general discussion section, maybe the convo could be merged onto the respected films message board. This might be a way to get the ball rolling. Couldn't agree more. Almost did it last night from google out of habit. Nope, not happening again. Ahh another to add to the 'Still not seen list'. I think I might join you at the grave never seeing any of them lol I was lucky to watch this show right after the series finished and can say, Breaking Bad is seriously addictive and a must watch. Just make sure you avoid spoilers, don't even type in a characters name in google as the drop down search bar usually says 'dies'. A fake spoiler almost ruined my whole viewing experience, luckily for me it was a troll on a wind up making the end even more enjoyable after believing I already knew what would happen at the end. The shining is not a typical scary horror movie, it will leave you confused and things might not make sense. The first thing you'll notice are the visuals, they'll stick with you for years. You will then notice something new on repeated viewings that will leave you asking more questions. The shining message board was a great place to go, there are things that some posters would post that nobody had noticed before. Stephen King wasn't happy with Kubrik's version of his book so made his own tv mini series in 1997. It's faithful to his book and good in it's own right but Kubrik's version is memorable. I grew up with the Kubrik film before learning about King's book so I'm slightly biased towards the film. I highly recommend AAWIL. I heard a remake is in the works so you prob might wanna see the original first. I remember The Matrix hype and advertising back in '99 with the slow motion special effects. I didn't understand what all the fuss was but that was my ignorance. I had the same attitude towards Lord of the rings until I got round to seeing it which is on reason why I will give the Harry Potter series a try. Just a matter of when lol. I think An American Werewolf In London and The Shining were the first films to make me discover IMDB and the message boards. This was one show I caught bits of when it aired on tv so didn't know what it was about. Got the box set and loved it. Haha!! Your reply reminds me of a comment I left for someone a while ago who was about to start watching 24 from season 1 up to the latest series. I'm very curious about Game of Thrones so will have to find the motivation to give it a shot. Imitations never succeed? Titanic succeeded. Kim Kardshian's claim to fame by releasing an xxx tape, already done by Paris Hilton, Jordan and Pamela Anderson. Myspace>Facebook>Twitter>Snapchat. Miss Sloane (2016) and Ouija Origin of Evil, both surprisingly good. Will be watching 'The Wailing' in a bit. Me too. This site has that simple early 2000's beta feel to it where you feel it's more about establishing a strong community first instead of flashy page designs. Definitely a work in progress but it's done something right as it actually feels like IMDB. I know how you feel mate. I was or still am a member last 11 years and used it for 5 years before signing up in 2006. Still undecided whether or not to delete my profile there. I might just sign up there, create a thread and promote this site. Then after 24 hours go back there, delete the account and come back here lol. Moderating is good and is a sure way to get rid of trolls but there is another side to it that I don't like. There will always be mods that abuse their power ban and will side with their favourite users, not all but some. Some will get the recommendation from site reputation because they are popular but can still abuse their power to ban posters they don't like. I've seen many new posters on various other forums get banned not because they are abusive or trolling but because they had a different opinion than the majority. The mod banned them because they were accused of upsetting the community atmosphere so banning was the easiest solution for the mods. This can develop a pack mentality where veteran posters can become untouchable and can bully new or even regular posters because they are close to and suck up to the mods. If anything I think there should be a simple report button for board users where the offending post gets sent to voluntary site monitors (who don't have the power to ban or suspend but can forward posts to the admin). If the reported post doesn't break any rules then leave it be. If it is clearly offensive/spamming or trolling then the voluntary monitor should then forward it on to the admin who makes the ultimate decision. The admin did his homework so it should be ok. I Just read this in - Welcome to MovieChat.org - from general discussion section: http://www.moviechat.org/movies/general/posts/58a28ce74dcf9300116f391d ''2. Are there legal concerns about archiving IMDB's posts? No. Before I became a software engineer, I was a lawyer for 4 years practicing in the IP and copyright space, and thus I have a deep understanding of the current situation, which is partly why I decided to start this site. Furthermore, I have spoke with several individuals at AMZN/IMDB, all of whom state that the message boards are of absolute minimum value/concern to the company, and it is highly unlikely that the company would pursue any legal action should someone attempt to archive the boards. In fact, IMDB was actually considering creating an API / data extraction tool to allow users to retrieve whatever they wanted before the boards shut down, but they decided it just wasn't enough of a priority for them (it wouldn't bring in any revenue, so why should they do it?). The (much) more likely scenario is that a few individual users may directly request to have their posts removed (much like you can request Google to remove personal information about you from its search results). Such an action would have a very minimal effect on the overall content of our site.'' Big respect for investing your own time getting this site up, Jim!!
