Maybe I missed it but was there a reason why he had a pack himself apart from 'so the ending could happen'?

Edit - real world testing (as a lie), apparently recreational?

I would say recreational and just for the hell of it. He was a callous, pompous ass wasn't he!

I thought it was a very good film BTW.

Seemed like he was the sort who would be quite keen on actually giving his own creation the full experience test - minus the crappy drugs of course.
