white male watched this...
I "get" the movie, through and through, understand some peoples contempt for it and all of that, but I didn't think it deserves all the lambasting for what people think is feminism etc. I didn't watch it with that frame of mind, although it was in the back of my head and I did look for it. like any movie, you can kind of lean things however you want to view them.
yes, it was a revenge story, yes, the lead was a mental wreck, but the film was competently made and acted, and the dialog was decent, but the main character lacked much reason to root for her, and her arc just bee-lines into the toilet.
Turns out this was written by a women, and I will say it, it shows. guessing she was trying to make a statement while ditching the parts that make a movie good: main character interest, and decent plot resolve.
Like every Christian movie forcing in a cancer death, this one makes the lead a martyr and that seems pretty dumb when there were 100 better ways to resolve with her coming out on top. The guy dialog said the things a women would suspect/expect guys in that situation to say, but never examines their side other than "boys are boys" or whatever.
I didn't think the film made all males idiots or self professed victims, and not really sure if there was much point to it all, other than a messed up girl wasting her life on revenge.
YES, I get that guys do things at parties with drunk girls - this has happened since the invention of alcohol... not sure if there is anything to fix there....
YES, this messed her up - things mess up people all the time, you deal with it and move on. Or maybe women don't have to deal with things?
NO, this movie wasn't all that man hating stuff people pushed up here. It was just a thriller style movie about revenge with piss poor resolve.
There's a lot to discuss about it, but mostly just things that would piss women off about what they do to themselves, so I digress. There's really no point in discussing it.
I could make a movie about a guy who goes to bars with his freinds, doesn't drink, to keep them out of trouble, yet gets hit on by many drunk women who are being EXTREMELY OBVIOUS EXACTLY WHAT THEIR INTENTIONS ARE, and how "drink in facey" they get when turned down, all based an many personal experiences. I've been grinded on without provocation, had my ass pinched with out permission or provocation, which, BTW all constitutes as sexual abuse these days.
There's two sides to most coins and this failed to cover either side very well.
Thumbs down.
