Asking for an address

Do 911 operators seriously say “give me an address or I can’t help you”? Like can’t they just track where the person is calling from and tell the police? The guy who said there was a fight at a night club or whatever , Gyllenhaal very easily could have looked up the address but he hangs up on the guy? Why?

The stupidity of these characters is really infuriating

The first thing they ask is 'give me the address of your emergency.'

When you call 911 from your cellphone, the dispatcher does not see your actual location. Instead, dispatch centers have to ask your wireless carrier for your location information. The location information comes from a cell tower, which could put you miles away from where you actually are.

Ok but if the person doesn’t know the address do they just hang up? If the person gives you the name of the bar they are at does the dispatcher say “that’s not good enough I can’t look up the address”?

I don't think so.

I watched it last night, thought it was OK but thought the twist was fairly obvious early on.

The thing that bugged me was how Gyllenhalls character was allowed to behave while inside the emergency room...having a personal mobile phone on his desk...constantly leaving his desk, going to another room...and barely a word said to him by the supervisor.

I am pretty sure someone in that job would not be allowed to behave like that.

The amount of times he hung up on people, said, "I can't help you", or just snapped at people was infuriating. I think the writer/director was just hell-bent on making him a bad guy, no matter how unbelievable.
