If Shazam 2 flopped...
then what are the chances of a character no one heard before being a b-o hit?

shareIF IT'S GOOD...IT WILL DO FINE...LOOK'S GOOD SO FAR.
shareI have a feeling this comment will not age well... Lol.
shareTRAILER LOOKS EXCELLENT.
shareI thought it was better than the Shazam 2 trailers but I think the OP has a fair point. This might not do well given the character's obscurity outside of comic book fandoms. Unless they lean into it being a more family-friendly superhero romp or something.
shareTHAT IS FAIR...THEY NEED TO LEAN INTO IT...MORE GEORGE LOPEZ~!
shareYou could put Ryan Reynolds in that Blue Beetle costume and it would still flop hard. These are bottom tier superheroes. They need to establish a core Justice League film series with big name actors, have characters like this show up in those movies, then spin them off into their films. It's the only way any of this is ever going to work.
shareYes and no. In a vacuum, I think you're wrong. Deadpool is the proof of this. Ryan Reynolds played a character that only the hardcore comic book fans knew existed, but the film was excellent, and it found an audience. However, had Deadpool been like the 10th film in a terrible franchise, people may have never given it a chance, i.e. Blue Beetle's situation.
shareNot only that, but the marketing drew people’s attention and it gained momentum.
shareGUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY WERE FAIRLY BOTTOM TIER CHARACTERS...IF THE FILM IS GOOD...THE PEOPLE WILL SEE IT.
shareThe Guardians aren't the star of their movies. The Star Wars style space adventure is.
shareAgreed, *if* the film is good.
Also, GOTG had the benefit of being the tenth film in a highly popular, generally acclaimed, fairly consistent franchise. FWIW, the first GOTG film is one of my very favourite MCU films, but I don't think many people, myself included, would have bothered with it, if the preceding MCU films had been mostly duds. GOTG also had an excellent trailer that made great use of one of the many nostalgia-prompting songs on its A+ soundtrack.
