Pawn shop scene

I know the ignorant liberals among us think it's that easy to walk into a pawn or gun shop and buy pistols without paperwork but that ain't how it works. No New Jersey pawn or gun shop owner is going to chance decades in prison for a couple hundred dollars. Hollywood perpetuating lies purely out of ignorance.

reply

That was a ridiculous scene.

reply

Yes it was. In the book Reacher robbed the pawn shop after the owner refused to go along with his scheme. Reacher of the TV series is a less violent person, even with the high body count.

reply

Thanks for that info from the book.

reply

Agreed. Even where I am, in a state known to be super easy to get a gun, one has to pass a very quick background check based on a valid ID and mental health history. Takes about 1 minute, as long as you don't do something stupid like what Reacher did in that scene. It was only one of the eye-roll moments in this season.

reply

Especially New Jersey. Remember, that's the state that arrested a Pennsylvania State Trooper for having his service sidearm unloaded and locked in the trunk. When the PA Governor asked the NJ Governor to have the charges dropped, The NJ Governor said "No," so the PA Governor told him anyone coming into PA to arrest the charged cop would be arrested for kidnapping and assault.

..Joe

Remember: if God gave the world an enema, he'd stick it in NJ.

reply

Exactly! I don't know about NJ but in states like IL, you have to have a permit just to look at one.

reply

Yup. So far that I know, PA doesn't require a permit to have a firearm, and is one of the states that still allows "open carry". Meaning you can walk around in public with a pistol on your hip, or a rifle over your shoulder. Of course, no one does that in general though. Certainly not in towns or cities.

So that trooper goofed and got caught, smacked too hard, and the PA Gov tried to help.

reply

The banter back and forth between Reacher and the shop owner was clever. I just accepted the b.s. premise.
