I really wish the character of Sam was Caucasian

Which is a strange thing for me to say, I am not racist at all, but the problem I have with the casting in this instance is that I don't buy him as either the love interest of someone who looks like Annie Murphy OR as an alcoholic.

Heck, I don't even know how likely it would be for a guy like that to want to own a diner!

It's obvious they stuck an Asian in there purely for diversity, since all the principal characters are already white, but in my opinion this casting choice just doesn't work at all. [shrug]

If anything, they could have made the neighbors Hispanic or something.

I do not enjoy snarky comments. But, I feel I have to throw some shade your way. I am married to an asian woman. I know quite a few. And, guest what, they have feet of clay just like the rest of us. I know some Asian alcoholics. As far as an Asian guy owning a diner, have you ever been to a Chinese, Japanese or Thai restaurant? Some can be on a "Diner" level. The guy is handsome and seems nice. I am on episode #6. You cannot buy someone like him being a love interest for Allison McRoberts. But, you're okay with her cartoon adolescent spouse! Head shaking

No, I don't buy such a pairing in real life either, but then her husband is deliberately grotesque, whereas Sam is a genuine love interest. And no, I don't find the latter attractive, or in her league, at all.

Well, I guess we will agree to disagree. I do not know your gender preference. I am a male who likes females. So, if you are someone who finds males attractive, then perhaps your opinion is more legitimate than mine. To me, he is a good looking guy who is nice. But, like I said I am no real judge of male attractiveness.

I get where you are coming from. However, it is also in line with Annie's character to want something different and exotic. She dreams of a different life and Sam is different.
