Are you not entertained? Because just about everyone who’s seen Gladiator II is taking to social media in praise of Ridley Scott‘s highly-anticipated sequel.

Although at least one viewer argued that the followup is “largely uneven and lacks the emotional punch of the first film,” many of the first reactions to the film are raving about the “epic Roman opera,” as well as buzzing about Oscar attention for Scott and star Denzel Washington, following a special screening Friday on the Paramount lot.

“GLADIATOR II works best as an acting showcase for Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, & Joseph Quinn. It’s largely uneven & lacks the emotional punch of the first film,” wrote Salazar on X. “However, Ridley Scott’s direction is unhinged, framing this as an epic Roman opera. The visuals get the job done.”

Jillian Chilingerian, co-founder and editor of Offscreen Central, called the movie “an absolute triumph,” adding in the post: “Ridley Scott places you in the action of the arena centered on legacy and honor amping up the blood, battles, and biceps for something so deliciously cinematic and Machiavellian. Pedro Pascal, Paul Mescal, & Joseph Quinn certified movie stars.”

I’ve got a pretty good feeling about this being good anyway.

The vast majority of the things that I've heard are positive. Let's hope those are legit and totally honest reactions and not just critics trying to maintain their access with Paramount.

I do hope it's a great success, both in terms of storytelling and in terms of box office receipts. It's pretty cool that Ridley, at 86-years-old, is still making big epics like this.

I do think that it's a good sign that they are having these early screenings, but I don't really trust these first reactions.

But I hope too that it's a great success. This is a must see for me at the theater.

I'm seeing the first Gladiator at the theater tomorrow. It's one of my favourite movies but I missed it at the theater when it originally came out.

Since I don't have any family nearby, every Thanksgiving I go to a movie. It's a personal tradition that I enjoy and I am very thankful--no pun intended--that this year Gladiator II will be playing. I really do hope it's great.

(Funny enough, last year my Thanksgiving pick was Napoleon, another Ridley movie.)

That should be fun going to see Gladiator on the big screen. I still remember going to see it at the theater with my dad all those years ago. I hope you enjoy it. The theatrical experience is still unparalleled to me and Gladiator is a film that really benefits from the big screen and the surround sound.

I have had the 4K Blu-Ray for a while now but still haven't watched it. I think to prepare for Gladiator II, I will watch it and will also watch all the special features on the disc.

Don't know why premiere was at Paramount lot instead of a regular theater. Don't see any negative reviews on Reddit.

Fingers crossed it's as awesome as the critics are saying. It really is insane that Ridley Scott is just a few years away from being 90-years-old and he's still making large-scale films like Gladiator II and Napoleon.

I'm seeing quite a bit of talk of a possible Oscar nomination for Denzel's performance.

it's probably great. just not gonna have that once in a lifetime enigmatic charisma of someone like Crowe is all.

First reactions are generally positive. Except for maybe Madame Web?
