Misleading Trailer

The move isn't a fun trippy adventure romp the way the trailer paints it to be. Instead it's a very dry and slow romantic fantasy film where not a whole lot happens and most of the movie takes place in flashbacks. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen, but it was rather dull and not worth paying to see in theaters. I'd recommend skipping it.

I quite enjoyed it although it didn't end quite as strong. But then I never watch trailers/previews.

Watch the trailer for this. It makes it look like a totally different movie.

Okay, I don't mind watching a trailer after I've seen a movie. Be right back.

Okay, just watched the official trailer from the MGM YouTube channel, 2:32 long. I'm not seeing the problem. I don't watch that many trailers, but I've seen complaints in the past where they made it seem like a famous actor with a small role was a much bigger part of the movie, or where they tried to make it look like a hilarious comedy when it was actually pretty serious, and those seemed valid. In this case, I thought it seemed pretty representative of the movie (which is exactly why I don't watch trailers: I want to see what happens in the movie for myself).

I agree with you. I saw it this afternoon and while I did like it, I thought I would like it more. Very interesting visual style (reminded me of Tarsem Singh directed pictures), but not as engaging or as wild as I expected.

Completely agree about the movie being nothing like the trailer.
It’s quite bewildering to me that they misrepresented the film in such a manner.
I too didn’t love this movie and agree it was dull and plodding, particularly Tilda Swanston's character (and I normally love anything she does) BUT the exotic visuals and fantasy elements of this movie have stayed with me for many, many days after.
Worth seeing that alone but I am kind of happy I saw this on a streaming platform and not at the cinema.

They made the trailer look like it was a "fun trippy adventure romp" to sell it to kids or fans of comic book movies, abandoning the real audience, which was adults. If you're a grownup, I'd recommend seeing it in spite of the misleading trailer.

reply

Well, judging by the box office, it looks like most people skipped it in theaters.
