Were nothing but purely bad SJW wokeism ... and done in a bad way ...
shareI wouldn't say "nothing but" (there's still some good stuff in here), but yeah it's trending that way and left me shaking my head in disappointment. Hopefully it'll move on from that tripe now.

Thank you, WP. The OP made a sweeping Pontifical statement with no substantiation, surveyed the world around him, and smugly thought, “Heh. My work here is DONE.”
One of the many things I admire about Evil is that it looks into the evil that lies in the cracks of our world, just as Hannah Arendt remarked on “the banality of evil.”
Let’s look at the 2 episodes the OP cites. (Not for nothing, Evil’s ratings have not dropped 1 jot.) One was about zombies. It posited that modern zombies are made by corporate greed, not by Voodoo; although the goal was the same in both cases: slave labor. We all know about the atrocious work conditions Amazon inflicts on its warehouse workers, and this ep was about warehouse workers. Where’s the woke?
The other episode concerned racism among white police officers. I have a black lady friend. She is a psychiatric social worker. Her daughter is a Dean at an Ivy League university where she earned her Doctorate. My friend is in fear for her life every time she is stopped by a white cop. One of the most rational people I know fears white cops. I doubt this is an anomaly. So, where is the woke?
SPOILER Kristin gets away with murder. She killed the monster who was going to murder her 4 little girls. Her cop friend lets her off, saying that some people deserve to die; so Evil may have, to some, validated the reality of White Privilege. The OP may find that woke; but Evil is about the Satan’s influence in our world, and we’ve had ample hints that Kristin—and certainly her Mom—are under demonic influence. Prithee, how does demonic influence factor into “woke”? The OP has an agenda having nothing to do with this show.
We are still in the early stages of building a world in Evil. Diabolical influence over the characters—Kristin, her children, her mother, Ben, David, the police, incels (a GREAT story arc) is just getting started.
Well-said, with a slight exception: your friend may be in fear due to ginned-up fearmongering, not reality. Was she scared of being pulled over by white cops fifteen years ago, or is it the more recent falsehood that thousands of unarmed black people are killed by white cops every year (when in reality it's a couple dozen, and most of them after investigation turn out to be fully justified, and when they aren't the cops lose their jobs and are charged with wrongdoing)? Having said that, it could very well be region-specific. Certain cities may have an actual problem with this, but I have a large number of black friends (since college), and none of them agree that it's a reality (also, look up Officer Tatum for a reality-check), albeit with occasional exceptions (meaning it's also an issue that cannot be summarily dismissed, because it does indeed exist, just not on a widespread, truly "systemic" basis).
But good points about the core allegory with each episode this season. There's definitely deeper meanings being presented. And while the impetus or framework for Kristin being able to slide by with murder is greatly exaggerated, I view such things as a reality within the universe of the fictional story (i.e. it happened there, so it's a reality there--but it doesn't necessarily represent, or may be and often is an exaggeration of our reality, although in this case it's a grosse exaggeration in our reality as well). Not only that, I'm weary of right-leaning viewers letting snippets of so-called "woke" elements in a story ruin the whole show/movie for them (although same with the opposite end of the spectrum). We and we alone control how we feel and react to anything.
For any ideologue, believer, etc. why give so much power to something/someone over yourself? It's weak and immature. In other words, the OP needs grow up and engage in some self-reflection, if a TV show bothers them that much.

Thank you for your reply. To answer your question, my friend has been extremely active in the civil rights movement for decades. You will understand why I’m not more specific than that😁. Her daughter is Dean on the Cultural Studies department at her university.
If you enjoy Katja Herbers, as I do, be aware that she is also in the cast of HBO’s Westworld, making her first appearance in Season 2.
I definitely enjoy her work. She first stood out to me in Manhattan, a largely under-looked series that I found very engaging, although the true highlight of that show for me was Rachel Brosnahan (after a dark and tragic role in House Of Cards--she pretty much stands out in any project she's involved with, even if a minor role), who of course went on to star in the The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
