How many people were just wasting bullets shooting the zombies in the body but at the beginning of this action a zombie goes down and a woman runs over and finishes it with a shot to the head. It doesn’t take people long to learn that these creatures go down when shot in the head.
Anyway, this wasn’t my main gripe. I was really bothered by how the way the zombies were ruthless killers throughout most of the season but in the last episode they were always a safe distance behind the heroes of the show. I’m sure Spears and blind girl were being chased and the running zombies were 10 metres behind then Spears and the blond woman did a whole tango dance routine and looked behind and zombies were still 10 metres away. Then Spears decided to chop some vegetables and have a stir fry. After finishing his meal he looked behind and zombies were still running at him but 10 metres behind lol

Black Summer's long foot chases through streets, yards, and buildings, and the relentlessness of the zombies who stay put when you hide and never give up, made them intimidating in a way TWDs walkers haven't been in a long time. And I liked their portrayal of the real challenge of making a head shot - it's not easy to do in real life unless you're at pointblank range. That's why snipers are trained to shoot for the upper torso, center of mass.
Not to mention other easier said than done movie tactics like slamming on your brakes and losing an unwanted passenger. I had to laugh at the hard time Velez had throwing that zombie off his hood. Plus getting guns: if an apocalyptic disaster hit right now, where would you go to equip yourself with an arsenal of assault weapons? And keep in mind that everyone else in your city will be asking themselves the same question at the same time. Better get moving! Don't know what the deal is with ambushing drivers for gasoline though. It would take more than a few weeks to exhaust the supply sitting in the tanks of derelict vehicles. Why fight people for their fuel when you can get it without risk from an empty car or someone's garage?
They avoided the Call of Duty zombie mode thing for most of the series, until the final episode. Suddenly those difficult head shots became as easy as pie. Like they were firing smart bullets. I did like that they included a few friendly fire casualties though. When you're involved in a crazy machine gun melee it's bound to happen. Including to our friend Lance (about time too!) after he basically stumbled through the entire show and survived through pure blind luck. Certainly it wasn't his great skill or courage that got him through.
That whole happy ending (or so it seems) was unexpected. I mean, I figured there was no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It didn't surprise me all the evacuees were gone and our heroes missed the boat. It was totally incongruous with the show's tone that season 1 ended with Rose's young daughter running toward her like that. One last bit of the randomness that made Black Summer so engaging most of the time. It sometimes made sense and sometimes strained credibility, I just thought of it as one long roller coaster ride of craziness and enjoyed it as such.
One basic inconsistency I haven't seen mentioned yet. Did anyone else notice how people were dressed? More for fall or early spring than summer. Clearly it wasn't that warm wherever they were filming. Maybe they should've called it Black October instead. :)
Thank you. Someone gets it. This show is far from perfect, but it has suspense, surprise and action like no other zombie show. Until the final couple of episodes, it was also more realistic. Sun and the mute guy were annoying, but at least they existed. In a real zombie apocalypse (can't believe I just typed that), there would be messiness, incompetence, confusion and brutality. The show did a good job of getting that across.
