Why was Christian harmed?

They got Christian to have sex with the red hair girl.
After he acutally realised what he has done, he ran off.
I don*t understand why the other men got after him and druged him with powder to make him numb. They also put him in that bear body and let him die in the fire!
Cause Christian did what the others wanted, that was having sex with that girl.
Can someone please explain?

reply

He was fucked from the get go. They chose him as one of the sacrifices and that was his destiny.

reply

That*s really cruel. Cause this kind of drug which makes your body completely numb, really exists!

reply

But wait... Dani had to choose between Christian and another guy from the cult to be sacrificed.
He did choose Christian because she saw him having sex with the red hair girl earlier.
So of course she was angry at him and picked him.
But it was not planned that Dani saw their interaction.
What if that did not happen?

reply

Your not going to be telling nobody about this.

reply

He knew what they did to Simon and saw what they did to Josh.
he was aware of their nefarious doings, so they had to do it.

reply

It only gets worse, in the Director’s Cut they allude to sawing his legs off to fit him in the bear suit.

reply

Eew! That would have been over the top. Psychological horror was what made this movie work, they didn't need to pile on the physical horror.

But yeah, I think they had Christian marked out as a favorite sacrifice from the beginning, a guy who could contribute some healthy tall white DNA to their limited gene pool, but who was too weak to make a good cult member. Seriously, the guy did whatever the last person he talked to asked him to do, if he'd joined the cult he'd have left the instant some girl suggest he do something else.

reply

I agree with your assessment of the psychological horror making Midsommar work as well as it did, and Christian being a marked man as well. To Aster’s credit the cutting is only implied. They show the older, white haired gentleman raise Christian’s frock from his ankles to his knees and then he reaches for a type of sawing device, immediately cutting to the next scene.

reply

That's the thing, true horror isn't showing someone being carved to bits, it's identifying with someone who finds a person who's carved to bits and realizes he's next... AND that the only person in the world who can help him is losing her fucking mind!

Terrific movie, and it worked because of the emphasis on character. Even the first horrible scene, at the cliff, was really about how the visitors reacted to it. From "We are leaving NOW", to the numb "I've seen worse than this".

I’m a big fan of Midsommar for all of those reasons. I also really enjoyed the voyeuristic way that it was filmed. Whenever I watch Midsommar I feel like I’m watching a documentary of sorts, like a camera crew was invited in to document the Harga community and way of life and I’m standing in the background passively observing. There’s a scene during the attestupa in which a boy turns and looks directly as the camera, and makes it seem as if we’re physically there watching as well. Super creepy stuff but I can’t get enough of it.

I'm very glad I watched that movie, but I've only seen it once and I don't know that I want to see it again. My job involves me in some very dark and serious stuff in real life, so I don't seek out darkness in entertainment. I've almost entirely stopped watching grim dramas and horror films... other than the silly ones they show on "Creature Features".

It is a terrific film, crafted to the ultimate edge of psychological horror, or torture, but damn. I went hiking in the woods the day after I saw it, and heard pagan horrors in every distant sound, and in general... I prefer peace of mind and a lovely walk in the woods to top-flight horror.

I understand where you’re coming from, my profession takes a similar toll and I actively avoid films that bring me down but I do occasionally make exceptions and both Midsommar and Hereditary are on that list. If you’re comfortable answering, are you a first responder or social service provider?

Sorry, but I really don't put anything personal on this forum, too many trolls and crazies.

Nothing to be sorry for, I get it.
