It is not. I know that often in today's discourse people use hyperbole and saying the opposite of what they mean as a form of sarcasm. I understand your skepticism. But, have you seen the show? It is brilliant. I hope there will be another season. To me, looks like there will be. There is still a lot of story and character development to be had. IE The Prime Minister and perhaps, the real power behind the throne.
“Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.”
It started in Australia last night and I watched the first two episodes. Fascinating premise and I agree, great writing. I can see many people taking issue with it, Trump supporters in particular, the suggestion that he eventually pushes the big red nuke button is bound to irritate the faithful.
You're going to love it! I hope there will another season. There is a lot of story lines to be mined. Enjoy the show. Also, post again when you have seen the whole series.
“The left was the left, the right was the right. America was America.”
“Where I’m going there’s no life or death, there’s only data.”
I though the first two episodes were the best, the last was the weakest. What I disliked about the last is that one one hand they tried to tie up all the loose ends, but also they seems to have chosen to make it a bit open ended so the story could potentially continue. It was also veering into being a bit preachy and heavy handed towards the end.
I personally hate endless tv serials. I know they are popular, but to me it just becomes an endless repeat of the same old, same old. So I had wanted a definite conclusion (this was promoted as a mini-series) without the unlikely "heroism" of the last episode. It just became evil vs good in a stereotypical way in that episode, and there were just way to many tropes and cliches going on. It also came across to me as quite naive and not very dramatic.
Some of the stuff was interesting and food for thought, but some of the other, towards the end, was not thought through and cliche, in my opinion.
I don't know why you would complain about the last episode of the idea of concluding a series in a meaningful way. You cannot just stop ... Sopranos did that ... and it sucked.
I know how you feel. I generally prefer limited series; that have a beginning, a middle and an end. Series can oft times become popular and the powers that be want them to continue. Continue whether it is logical or not. Eventually the writers run out of ideas and a script will come along that totally "Jumps the shark." The last season of "The Affair" comes to mind. But this show deserves one more season. But alas, I do not think it will. C'est la vie, or is it c'est la guerre?
“When I went to university, they said accountancy was a job for life. But now – thanks to your lot – artificial intelligence can do my job in one second flat.”
Well, it is my Nom de Plume. Or in this setting, my Nom de MovieChat. Actually, it is my wife's nickname. Her first name is Erendschan. She is of Mongolian extraction. Her father used to call her "Edgey." Then I called her Edge. Others heard me using that name and it stuck. I like it. I know that David Howell Evans of U2 uses it. But, he does not own it. Besides, my father-in-law used it for his daughter long before David Howell Evans used it.
It is truly amazing.
Not just in story, but in conception, direction and acting.
One of the best things I have seen in a very long time, and actually has a point that is not insulting to the viewer's intelligence. I totally agree 10/10.
