Ending? ( SPOILERS of course)

OK... We see ENS Vandivier (officer) surviving and the enlisted gunner, Lee, die.

In the PBY, they see Lee, unscathed, come aboard. It then shows the empty life vest floating, implying the ENS died.

The closing credits say in reality both of 'em died.

It does not say the PBY crew died.

So, they weren't all dead... they rescued SOMEONE. Who the hell was it, and why did they portray it ambiguously?

Continuity error? Some spiritual statement? Two scripts mixed up?

What's your thought?

I see Vandivier get inside the PBY. But agree with you, bad scripting... BAD sequencing!

1. Little wake from a ship that is starting to launch planes... Should be a bigger wake...

2. The cradle that holds the bombs and moves to clear the propeller is deployed for too long, when I have seen in documentaries the cradle moves a few seconds before bomb release...

3. The carrier moves "into the wind" then they turn the plane's engines on... My understanding is the engines will be turned on, to warm them, then the order is given to "turn into the wind."
