Why these gumbos keep falling for this guy’s pranks?
Didn’t everyone catch on after the Borat and Bruno movies?

shareNotice how he's not using Borat or Bruno?
Also notice how he spent a decade laying low so people could forget about him?
Those new characters had never been seen before by anyone.
Doesn’t matter. This kind of gotcha comedy has been around awhile now. Only out of touch, head in the sand idiots still fall for it. Guess that’s why the Nigerian prince scam is still around too. A sucker is born every minute, but sheesh, can we at least keep them from holding public office?
shareIf you're a public figure that regularly does public engagements I think it might be a little more difficult to sniff out his stunt than you're imagining. His people are the best at the practiced deception of using exactly the kind of ruse that will bait the target to agree to an interview. I can't blame them for mistakenly accepting what they think is a genuine interview request.
How they comport themselves in the interview is a separate thing entirely. It should become clear almost immediately to anyone with a brain that they're getting their chain yanked. I think Koppel and Bernie acted entirely rationally and appropriately under the circumstances. OTOH, no excuse for the deep self-clowning by Joe Walsh and Jason Spencer. They're just hapless tools.
I heard that with Ali G, SBC would act like an assistant prior to the interview. It was only when it was time to film, he would take the seat and start asking questions. All before that there was a standard media type in a suit prepping as the interviewer. I can understand the interviewee going along for the first few minutes, but after that there's no rational excuse, aside from going along as a joke.
shareDon't know. Something's up. I think his press agents who set up these interviews might actually be super spies.
shareI'm not a fan, but he's doing something for his audience. If they're entertained, I wish him the best. If people fall for it and do something embarrassing, that's on them. In the end, it will probably fade and be forgotten.
shareActually, several people don't fall for it. If you watch the show, you'll see that a lot of them just stop the interview after realizing something is up. And this guy even called him Borat, making Sasha flee the scene:
