Rachel McAdams and Dan Stevens are the reason to watch this.

I was surprised to see these two names attached to a Will Ferrell movie. But despite the shoddy writing Dan and Rachel never phone it in and manage to make this movie watchable.

Dan is fantastic as always and Rachel is clearly channeling Bjork. But they both rose to the occasion as AAA actors and knocked it out of the park.

Will, however - is not aging well. Not only is he not particularly handsome anymore, he can’t sing and he *really* can’t act very well. He continually gets his ass handed to him by Rachel in terms of acting ability. It’s Will who really brings the whole project down to a SNL skit. Never once did I believe in the chemistry between the two main stars - but I definitely felt it with Dan and Rachel.

Why were Will’s singing parts not overdubbed liked his costars? He sounds AWFUL. Even with all the vocal manipulation thrown at it he sounds like utter shit. And he clearly hates America as he goes off a little *too* much on Americans. We get it, Will, we get it. You hate the USA.

If this movie was just centered around Will it would be a .5/10 Netflix dumpster-fire. But Rachel and Dan elevate it to at least 5/10. It’s worth your time just to watch Dan and the way he really brings his Russian character to life.

Wait a minute, Will Ferrell was handsome at some point in the past? If he was ever considered handsome, then I'm friggen Brad Pitt!

Especially Dan Stevens. He never disappoints.

I think you missed the point in several of your comments.

Will Ferrell was never really handsome, he always played the part of the weird guy.

He knows very well that McAdams is a superior actress, he usually tries to surround himself with respected actors. It also helps enhance his status as the weird one of the cast.

Will's parts were not overdubbed because, as we can see in the movie, he was never even that talented to begin with. He was just a mediocre guy with a dream. Rachel McAdams' character was the talented one. Amazing voice and, turns out, the secretly good writer of songs.

Finally, I don't think Will Ferrell hates americans. That was clearly a joke, because he was clearly insulting americans when he, himself, is american. Get it? He was making fun and insulting himself.

True. But because of his doofiness I could never believe that Sigrit would ever fall for him. Especially since they've friend-zoned themselves for years.

I think the point I was trying to make is that Rachel is overdubbed and because of that the songs sound like actual songs until Will's parts come in. If they were going to allow bad-singing on the final take they should've left Rachel's voice on like Will. Will just wants royalties and I do believe he thinks he can sing. He sang all the time on SNL.

If you don't think Americans can hate Americans then you have a lot to learn about American's. Hollywood is up to its ears with loathing for the USA.
