Were the german troops all stormtroopers?

They can't hit shit.

Common Misconception. Stormtroopers are actually quite accurate and impressively effective when they don't have specific orders to either capture alive (Empire strikes back) or actually let escape (A New Hope) the main Heroes. It is only in Return of the Jedi that they can't seem to hit anything.

But in defense of the Germans, the 2 main guys in this film didn't get shot at all that often. In fact Blake is never shot at and Schofield is the only one that gets shot at and it is only twice. Once by a German soldier that is either very sick or drunk (not sure which).

I think he means World War I German stormtroopers, not from StarWars

I am pretty sure he is talking about the running joke from Star Wars. His quote "they can't hit shit". That is a running joke about Stormtroopers from star wars missing alot. German Stormtroopers in WWI there is no question of their battle prowess, they were known to be accurate marksman so I am pretty sure he did not mean them.

You're right. It was Star Wars' Stormtroopers joke. Thanks about the insight about them too. Not really a Star Wars afficionado so I don't know how accurate the joke was.

Anyway, okay the Germans might be left for dead so they were not in their tip top shape, that makes sense. However, I still don't like they way the movie depicted it ("it" being not the Germans, but the way they shoot.)

While they never ever hit their target, but they always came so close. The broken bridge scene is the biggest offender, but also the running around explosions near the ending. It just hit sooooo close but not even a shrapnel grazed our protagonist. They should have make it either hit him or more random and further apart. And I think it would even help the movie's tone of stepping into the unknown and desperation.

To be fair, the scene when he was running around aimlessly at the burning ruins is fine.

Exactly what I was thinking while watching this movie.

reply

Yep. Agreed. And Will went to the Prometheus School of Running Away in a Straight Line and they still couldn't hit him.

reply

Haha I had the same thought in my head when I saw this movie. Wonder why they shot thoose scenes like that.

reply

It's almost The A-Team.

reply

Haha yes. Another thing I felt was a bit wierd. When Blake died and a whole company and trucks comes. How come he did not hear them? His friend died yes, but that does not make you deaf?

Tbf I liked the movie and the soundtrack was great. Just thoose details were a bit odd to me.
