Of course people will hate it
due to the subject matter. However, those of us with actual brains won't be bothered by such outdated and outright stupid views. It's a very enjoyable movie.

It was ok. Typical Hallmark shit.
Dan Levy was the best part. Oh and the girl from Parks and rec.
It was sweet and had its moments but I found Mackenzie Davis’ character so unlikeable that it was hard to root for the inevitable happy ending... throughout the movie I was willing Kristen Stewart to run off with Audrey Plaza, who along with Dan Levy stole the film.

The biggest criticism of Happiest Season is the Harper character, some people just don't feel she deserves the ending she gets. Abby deserved better. Some of the shit Harper pulls in this film is dump level stuff if it happened in real life. It doesn't help Audrey Plaza's Riley is so much nicer and her and Stewart have great chemistry (something her and Davis lack imo). It didn't ruin the film for me but it definitely didn't hit as well as it should have.
If Clea Duvall wasn't going for a family friendly Christmas film, and maybe went for more of edgier comedy having the romance of Abby and Riley happen would have been brilliant. But alas that wasn't the film she was going for. But Duvall and Mary Holland (Co-writer and also played Jane) should have done a better job with Harper character.
The support cast is one of the reasons you should watch this film. And the film up to the ending is fun little film even if it's a little cheesy.
Do ppl still have these viewz? Feelz old and outdated like if they remake Footloose.

Speaking of Netflix, I am baffled it has maturity rating 7+.
First I think kids of that age would be bored watching it. Second, it is not the lesbian relationship that is a problem per say, but minor background details which are not appropriate for 7 years olds. Like furry rain deer in a harness being whipped by Sexy Miss Santa, drag queens singing about penises. This is now appropriate for kids according to Netflix?
No I liked it, it's a Hallmark rom com really with star names in it. I wish it had a little more edge to it personally but really it's a cheesy Christmas rom com with a Lesbian couple. I don't think director/writer Clea Duvall (go check out But I'm a Cheerleader, she's great actress in her own right) was going for anything with much depth but a nice family Christmas film.
Harper's treatment of Abby for most of the running time just annoyed the hell out of me that I just didn't buy the ending and I wish they went down the route of spinning the trope on it's head by having Abby fall for Harper's ex Riley. I just found Harper so unlikeable sadly. Stewart and Davis didn't have that chemistry either. Although I liked Stewart in this, her style of acting worked well with the film.
But I still recommend it. Aubrey Plaza is always worth watching even if she's a little underused in this one. Dan Levy was a lot of fun too. To be fair the supporting cast were strong, especially other writer of the film Mary Holland as Jane, the awkward sister.
I think 6.6 on IMDB is the right rating overall.
