There's really no story here so the value probably was in making this a Disney+ series

Kudos to Disney. They've probably made the right call on deciding to retool this as a TV release.

I know we're only two episodes in but there are only six episodes in total, so I cannot imagine we're going to get an incredible jump in making any real addition to the Obi-Wan mythos.

I think this was always the concern even for those keen to see an Obi-Wan film. i.e. he's supposed to be on Tatooine watching over Luke. What could they do to make a compelling story? Well, episode two certainly didn't answer that.

Therefore by switching it to a streaming TV series, and ensuring a huge number of new subscribers, Disney probably pats itself of the back in terms of share price and banks more than it would have done with this story being delivered to cinemas. Poor word of mouth, based on this kind of story, probably would have seen this in Solo territory and done more harm to the franchise.

On Disney+ people will see this through to the end regardless of any disappointment thus far.

I don't remember Disney promising that OWK would reveal any startling additions to the Obi Wan mythos. So subscribers, old and new, tuning into the show are not under any false pretenses.

So far there is no bad word of mouth based on its story being confined to the certainty of Kenobi, and those he swore to protect, surviving this series. And practically every new character that isn't familiar in the OT or beyond is almost guaranteed death. So there is no suspense there. Yet people still greatly anticipated this show and are mostly looking forward to the next episodes.

The whole show is for the prequel lovers who want to see Ewan back as Obi-Wan Kenobi. They’ll get so many prequel lovers subscribing to Disney + just for this and the nostalgia it’ll give them.

Yeah. And? So? What?

Was just pointing out it’s a clever strategy by Disney for a story that probably doesn’t need to be told.

Like HBO Max getting Snyder fanboys to subscribe to HBO Max for that 4 hour cut of Justice League.

If it so obviously doesn't need to be told then it equally obviously doesn't need to be watched and D+ equally obviously doesn't need to be subscribed to.
