What if you got floor 333
What would you do if you got floor 333? Would it be possible to survive? That would be some bad luck. Was floor 1 or 0 the best floor to be on?

It was kind of a hole in the logic of the whole system: why not just ride the platform down? Valid option from any floor, really.
From an outside perspecite, going up or down doesn't really imply better or worse. The association of "better" with "up" was made solely because of the food being passed downwards becoming more and more scarce. Discarding that, it's just a bunch of floors where, frankly, going down seems like the better option.
Of course the higher levels are better. There's more food to eat. Why would you want to go down if you're already starving? If you mean go all the way down to ride the platform back to the top, it's still a prison. What happens when you try to escape a prison? They just put you back in and you get more time. Who knows, they might even put you all the way at the bottom as punishment. Or just kill you. It's not like they cared whether the prisoners lived or died.
