I think Baby Yoda is adorable on The Mandalorian and I wonder if we will ever see him say his first words during the show? Because I find it surprising that he still makes baby sounds and he should be able to learn to talk soon
Human babies learn to wall and talk at around the same time... but who knows about this species. Maybe they learn to walk at 20 years old, and speak at 100.
Basically, the showrunners will do whatever makes the character the cutest, that's my guess.
He can clearly understand at the level of a six or seven year old human child. Mando was giving him instructions when he was trying to help repair the ship and he was mostly getting it, although the more complicated tasks he was messing up. But tell the kid to grab a wire and he knows to grab a wire.
My guess is, their species (if they're all just as Force sensitive) may prefer to communicate among themselves telepathically. Vocal communication is something they learn later. We know Yoda could speak, even if he used stilted grammar, I think Grogu hasn't started talking only because no one has been pushing him to do it. He's been observing and seems to understand what's being said so he'll probably go from no words to a decent vocabulary pretty fast.
Oh, I bet if Grogu begins to talk he will sound cute indeed. When I found out The Child's name was indeed Grogu my mom couldn't and still can't pronounce Grogu so she calls him Roku and I told that The Child was not named after a streaming service and she just laughed
