They foolishly cut one of the best scenes from the movie (but not the trailer)

I hate when there’s stuff in the trailer that’s not in the movie, but that’s another discussion. This scene, according to Curtis, would have taken audience sympathy away from Jack. I don’t really agree, and maybe he means other scenes involving the same character Roxanne. But just keeping this one scene and not following up with that character surely would have been no problem.

Here’s the full scene in question, starting at 15:52: https://youtu.be/N3LL_epyiuA

And here’s an article where Curtis describes why it was taken out despite his acknowledging that it’s a lovely scene—with a great joke that I didn’t actually catch when watching it on the Blu-ray deleted scenes:

Here's why they cut it: Because no one would pick Lily James over Ana De Armas.

reply

I would.

Ok no straight man.

Pretty sure either one is the catch of a lifetime. Though given a choice, I'd go with Ana only because of that Keanue Reeves movie where she seduces him.

reply

I would choose either one of the two hot and crazy girls in the Keanu movie over Lily James.

reply

Haha, point taken. Although they could have added some scene that helped him realize she is too “Hollywood” for him.

Oh I very much agree with Curtis - Jack would've lost my sympathy had he even toyed with dating Roxanne.

Jack's realization that Lily was the one for him - that was the point of the film, in my opinion.

I do note, though not in the OP's case, that many people criticize this film not for what it did but rather what they'd have done had they written the story.

This may come back to bite them. Some fans are suing for deceptive marketing, because they rented the movie based on Ana De Armas's star power and then she wasn't in it.

reply

Wow, really?

reply

No joke.

I think they make a good argument! I never like when they use scenes in the trailer that are not in the movie. But have an actor who is not in the movie is particularly out of line. They are entitled to cut whatever they like, but then they shouldn't advertise something falsely.
