Did anyone else experience this issue?

I strangely could never buy the characters as real people. They always struck me as actors performing according to a contrived script. This includes the three characters who return from the original trilogy (Ellie, Alan and Ian).

I didn't have this problem with "Fallen Kingdom," which I consider one of the better JP films.

Kinda. None of the cast seemed like they were taking it serious and also seemed like they didn't even want to be there.

This strangely feels like one of the most forced sequels.

...seemed like they didn't even want to be there.

That's the best way to put it. They were just "phoning it in" robotically to get their paycheck.

I liked the plot, though, and the spirit of adventure. But, clearly, something went wrong on the set that elicited a go-through-the-motions execution in regards to the performances. Where's the passion, the joie de vivre? Something caused a dour mood during the shoot.

reply

Yeah, I was actually caught off guard with how bad this movie turned out. The script was lousy, I'm shocked this was the best they could do. I would say the cast got their copies of the script and knew it was garbo.

reply

it was filmed during the covid outbreak (when everyone thought the world was coming to an end Contagion style)

reply

That's a good point; I didn't consider it.

actors performing according to a contrived script
I have this issue with every movie.

reply

That's what my wife said: "They're actors who act according to what's written in the contrived script." (lol)

I won't notice this, however, in a good movie in which I'll buy the actors as real people and get lost in the story. I wasn't able to do this with "Dominion" for some strange reason. I'm not saying it was all bad; there's a lot of good in it if you're in the mood for a thrilling dinosaur "blockbuster" (e.g. globetrotting locations, Claire, lots of action and well-done CGI dinosaurs).

I watched the original JP movie, and regretted it. It was childish and stupid - for kids and I was an adult, or at least a young adult. Every one of them that I have had a look at has been worse and worse. The whole movies are like some kind of Disney Robo-motion story where the viewer is on a ride seeing some kind of canned tableaus with no point.

I was never a big fan of the original either, but the horrific Tyrannosaurus Rex scene is well done, as well as the Raptors-in-the-kitchen sequence, both of which make the flick worth watching (for me anyway).
