I like the show, but...
...it is preachy. Miles always speaks like he's giving a sermon. I honestly hope that they don't make it so god is behind the account, because that will make the show what it often looks like - an ad for religion.

shareWith a title like that, you'd expect preaching. The problem is, it'll be preaching Hollywood Christianity, which isn't the Christianity in the Bible.
shareYeah, this show actually preaches love and understanding.
shareWhich means, yes, not the Christianity in a large majority of The Bible. Especially since actual Christianity is only in The Four Gospels, where Christ actually spoke.
shareMmmmm, no... Christianity is all of it. Especially since Jesus constantly makes references to OT and cherry picks which of the OT rules he'll follow. Just like believers today cherry pick.
To be a Christian is to follow Christ. So, if He said or directly referred to it, it is Christian. If He didn't, it isn't. Simple.
shareYeah, but that A-hole lied. He said he'd be back in a few years. Plus, I loved my mother too much to treat her the way he'd treated his.
shareNot true. Christ said that no one knows the day or the hour of my return. Mark 13:32: “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Luke 12:40: “You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” So, there's that.
shareTruly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.“ (Matthew 16:28)
Either that was a lie, or we've got some oooooold people walking around.
Boy! You're really stuck on this, aren't you? This quote is about Jesus having to sacrifice Himself, not the second coming.
shareDepends who you ask. Like I said, the main problem with holy books - too fickle.
shareIf you read Paul's writings, he certainly believed he was in the last days and Jesus would return soon. This is just like the Christians of today.
Christians back then weren't thinking, "All this stuff applies to Christians 2,000 years from now, not us today." Just like how Christians today don't think, "All this stuff applies to Christians 2,000 years from now."
When I hear people debate about the bible today I'm like: "What are you doing? This book was meant to impress illiterate, ignorant people, who knew less science than an average grade-schooler today."
shareThat's funny because when creationists used to bring up Darwin, I would say that the average high school student of today knows more about evolution than Darwin did.
shareOf course. Darwin was wrong about a lot of things, but he is credited as the father of the theory. We, now, have a lot more tools of discovery than he had. Newton was celebrated for theorizing about gravity until Einstein proved him wrong, but that doesn't take away his status in the scientific community. Discovery of today is built upon the discovery of yesterday.
shareSome of the cherry picking has consequences. Such as Luke 19:26-27: 26He replied, ‘I tell you that everyone who has will be given more; but the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 27And these enemies of mine who were unwilling for me to rule over them, bring them here and slay them in front of me.’”
That passage was used to justify the Crusades, but Christians today would say it's just a metaphor and not meant to be taken seriously. Yet, past Christians took that verse very seriously. Big "Whoops!" moment there.
Main problem with religion. The holy books. So damn fickle.
shareIt really doesn't seem preachy at all to me. Despite the title and the presence of Miles father the preacher, they really don't get into religion much at all.
shareHave you heard the way he speaks? Like he's on the pulpit all the time. And you don't have to talk about religion to sound preachy.
shareNot at all. Take a look at the bilge on the Politics topics.
Folks, God is capitalized. He is capitalized. Please show respect for your Creator. I do not mean to scold. I am asking you please to show respect for My Lord, who loves you and me very, very much. Thank you.
I show him equal respect as I show Perun, Odin, Zeus, Jupiter etc
