Why did Annie chase Peter and did nothing when she had him?

She could've killed Peter but proceeded to kill herself instead and Paimon's deamon possessed him while he was alive anyway.
Yeah it was scary but it didn't seem relevant to the plot.

Annie did exactly what was intended, to further drive Peter to the breaking point necessary for the possession to take place.

Nothing confirms that there needed to be a breaking point. And it still doesn't really explain what she would've done if she caught him...
