Why did Sheryl decline Rodney? Spoilers

So they went out to a lounge after the game show, and after interacting she shook her head at the waitress to decline staying longer. Why do you think that was? Then she flat out refused to go on a trip with Rodney when he decided to put her on the spot about it. Again, why? I'm just wondering if I may have missed something during their date at the lounge. Going by what little I had heard over the years about this "dating game killer", I was under the impression that the real people "bachelorette and Bachelor" I didn't think the woman noticed that promptly. I was under the impression she changed her mind at the last second, before leaving on the trip. Or was I mistaken?

Re-watch the scene at the diner. Between the warning given to her by bachelor number three and the switch that was clearly flipped in his head when she was joking and not taking him seriously at the diner, it was apparent that this guy was a potential threat to her.

Okay, I just re-watched it. Personally, I didn't like the guy's attitude at the table and in general. But he didn't seem to make any threats, he just imo, came across as intense and creepy. Is that what your getting at, in saying he was a potential threat? That just seems a bit weird to me if that's what this is being based upon. It seems like something that would definitely happen in today's woke society, but I wouldn't think so as much as the late 70's or early 80's.

reply

Intense and creepy seems like reason enough not to go on a little vacation with him.

reply

Oh yeah, but some could say that he was just trying to show her he wasn't afraid to try to possibly escalate their relationship, even early on. Where is at least now, if a man is just totally tame and isn't willing too try and push things a bit, he's boring, predictable and non date worthy.

reply

I see what you mean. Combine that with the warning from B#2 though and you've got some significant red flags, especially as a petite woman like Anna Kendrick in the film who is already questioning the motives of the men around her.

reply

Instincts, sometimes you get a feeling, and some people are very in tune with reading the room while others are completely oblivious.
Her instincts combined with the one dudes warning were more than enough. Women especially have to fine tune these instincts, for all of the obvious reasons. This character was clearly in touch with trusting her gut and knew what the score was.

There was a woman who went on a date with Ted Bundy, and just had this feeling that he was going to do her harm, she politely excused herself from the table and left the restaurant and called a friend from a pay phone to pick her up. These types of things do happen.

No. Apparently, immediately after the recording. She just had a brief chat with him backstage and got an ugly vibe from him, so when the production team contacted her to arrange the date she said no thanks.

Obviously, for the film they've dramatised it to make it more interesting than it really was.
