How come this COST so much ($1,000,000,000) ???

Where the hell did all the money go? It's certainly nowhere to be seen, not even the visuals are as good as Jackson's LOTR trilogy, and that cost a tiny fraction by comparison!

Maybe it is part of tax scheme, transfer profits to low or no tax regions, IP related tax transfer schemes are the easiest to set up, amazon has rarely made profits, but the owner is the one of richest people in the world. I think that is at least part of explanation.

may be they traveled on location and did not use the led panels...traveling with the crew is expensive...

They said that to make headlines, word of mouth, etc... what they actually mean is that Amazon is *willing* to spend over 1 billion on the show... if it gets renewed for a second season.

They have still spent a lot though... just 250 million went towards rights to use the name and LOTR universe elements.

Another 465 million spent in producing the first season itself... 8 episodes.

*House Of The Dragon 'only' cost 200 million and had 10 episodes.

Apparently most of the money went to the Tolkien Estate, for the purchase of the rights to the Appendices of the Lord of the Rings.
