Is Sauron actually walking around like a regular MAN?

WTAF? I always saw Sauron as a larger-than-life figure in the Last Alliance, and especially as the Eye of Sauron, not to mention the sheer power he had as the Necromancer in the Hobbit movies, AND when Gandalf confronted him and he revealed himself in that awesome not-man way...

...and you're now saying that Sauron is an ordinary man, who could DIE like an ordinary man???

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?

reply

Sauron is a Maiar like Gandalf but it is more powerful. The Maiar are supposed to be similar to angels or spirits. Sauron is a shapeshifter so it can take on many forms. Sauron appeared as an elf named Annatar when he won over Celebrimbor.

The writers of this show have turned this into a mystery over which character is Sauron. Halbrand is my frontunner to be Sauron BUT these writers are inserting a lot of red herrings and easter eggs. Halbrand did show off superhuman skills when he dove into the ocean to save Galadriel and easily beat the crap out of the Numenorian guild members.

reply

Galadriel single handedly killed a troll and overpowered half a dozen armor clad guards. Arondir catches an arrow in mid flight. By these standards, how is what halbrand did superhuman?

reply

Galadriel and Arondir are elves who live thousands of years so I always thought the elves were genetically superior to mortal men. One could argue that elves have quicker reflexes so catching the arrow could be possible. I did complain that Galadriel does appear to be a superhero based on her killing a troll, taking out four guards, scaling the tower to see the queen regent and swimming across the ocean. The troll scene was odd since the male elves were getting clobbered by the troll and Galadriel EASILY took out the troll.

The Numenoreans live for hundreds of years and they are taller than normal men. Halbrand claims to be from the south and I think he is supposed to be a normal man. I thought the Numenoreans were genetically superior to normal men and Halbrand took out four? of them with ease. Galadriel was sinking like a rock in the ocean and Halbrand was able to retrieve her??? You'll have to agree that his ocean dive was amazing.

Text from the article below:

The Númenóreans were also on average very tall; with six foot, four inches being the average among them. Many far exceeded this height; Elendil himself bearing the nickname Elendil the Tall for being nearly eight feet high. One characteristic that set them apart from typical men was their longevity. Númenóreans were not immortal as the Elves or Ainur, however in gratitude for their service during the War of Wrath, they were blessed with extended lifespans averaging three times those of other men.

https://lotr.fandom.com/wiki/Númenóreans * Numenoreans live longer and taller. stronger?

reply

Aren't you forgetting the elf who got shot by an arrow trying to escape the orc camp? I guess not all elves have these reflexes.
The numenoreans are taller and stronger, yet Galadriel was able to shove 5 of their elite guards through a door.

Halbrand can beat up 4 guys because he is a main character. It's as simple as that.Just like Daemon targaryan can kill 10 men single handedly on a battle field, or push a horse over.

reply

Halbrand can beat up 4 guys because he is a main character.

Also I think Numenoreans in the Amazon story are portrayed as regular human.

I think it is a lot more difficult to cast all of them as over 6 feet tall. Halbrand, at least the actor Charlie Vickers, is 5 feet 11 inches tall, countless Numenoreans are shorter than him.

As regular humans 4 of them were beat up by a warrior is possible.

reply

Halbrand could not have been Sauron because Sauron would not have stolen the guild ID from tradesmen.

Also Sauron would have more productive ways to use his time, if he were a shapeshifter a better target would be the elf king, kill him and replace him.

Then cancel the hunt for orcs and Sauron, and commission making of the rings, which are all what the elf king has already been doing.

reply

Agreed, makes much more sense. But not going to happen unfortunately.

reply

There are a lot of red herrings so Halbrand may not be the guy. He's my frontrunner BUT Sauron may not have even showed up yet. Halbrand shares with Sauron a passion for smithing and diplomacy. It does seem to be an odd coincidence that Halbrand would encounter Galadriel in the middle of the ocean.

Why wouldn't Sauron steal the guild id from tradesmen?

The Halbrand poster does show him holding a sword with a decorative horse pommel so I don't know if that foreshadows his future.

The elf king Gil-Galad actually fought Sauron at the final battle where Isildur cut the ring off Sauron's finger. Sauron killed Gil-Galad and Elendil in that battle before Isildur cut off the ring. It would go against canon for Sauron to kill Gil-Galad before that battle. The writers can make up some stories BUT they are not supposed to change canon. Some of the experts have complained that Galadriel is supposed to be married but her husband has not appeared on the show.

They've built the forge BUT I don't believe the rings have been mentioned at this point. I thought Annatar/Sauron tricked the elves into making the rings.

reply

All right, not the elf king. Then my next suspect is Elrond, because Elrond helped the elf king formulating his policies.

Elrond was also very dedicated to help building the forge. That also explains why he forgot his dwarf friend, because he was Sauron, no friend of a dwarf.

There was also a curious expression on his face when he held the new metal, essential in ring making?

Then there are cases against it as well, because there could be details only known by Elrond and the dwarf, unless Elrond kept a detailed journal.

Building of the forge was clearly not his idea, the forge was already being commissioned before he was told. And only after that he met Celebrimbor.

Maybe the idea of the rings only emerges after the forge and new metal are both presented?

Anyway, this is just a suspicion, maybe Sauron has not shown himself yet. Let's just hope they did not make Sauron a she.

With the capability of shapeshifting and all that, hard to tell the original gender. The show runners could come out with a stupid grin:"Expectations subverted!", or something like that, while I am thinking of punching their faces.

reply

I don't think they would have Sauron masquerading as a character created by Tolkien since that would violate canon. The clueless writers might do anything. Elrond and Galadriel both played active roles in LOTR so they should be portrayed as heroes.

The characters featured on the 23 promotional posters have been identified except for the stranger and the dark gauntlet. The dark gauntlet poster was originally thought to be Sauron but it's possibly Adar. There isn't a poster for Annatar so that character may not even show up until the second season. Adar is another obvious contender for Sauron since he is the only outwardly evil character.

if the Annatar story is going to be used then we are still yet to see Sauron.

reply

This is the Bad Reboot. That's how they write

That damned company is a PESTILENCE to popular culture! DAMN JarJar Abrams and his mystery boxes!!

reply

Sauron has always been a shapeshifter - it's how he managed to convince the different races to help him forge the rings of power in the first place.

The movies are set during the period where Sauron can't create a physical body. We only seem him in his armoured form during the wartime flashbacks.

reply

"The movies are set during the period where Sauron can't create a physical body."
But the sheer POWER he had as just a malevolent lighthouse (as I always called it) - he could see what most of Middle-Earth was doing, thanks to his connection with the One Ring (Frodo) and of course, his Palantir, through which he could easily observe Denethor, Saruman and everyone else who had one! That gave him an INTIMIDATING POWER!

reply

He did have a body, in the books Gollum saw him and said "he had four fingers on his black hand". It was after the ring was destroyed that he could never manifest physically again.

reply

I always thought that was a metaphor for his diminished power still being enough to terrify Gollum.

Tokien's book trilogy never describes him, physically. He's more of a psychic presence or an abstract impression, which is why Jackson made him a big fiery eye in the films.

reply

I hope they do it cylon style and EVERYBODY is Sauron in the end. That'd be a good twist.

reply

Adar is an agent/servant of Sauron. Halbred is the Witch King. Meteor man is Gandalf.

reply

He has to be a regular man so that gay Superfan can "fix" him in season 2.
