isn't writing something in the style of Tolkien like...

trying to compose music like Bach or Mozart. Who would listen to this? Maybe it is a new Million Dollar Idea?

Evidently every dipshit going to film school in LA right now thinks the only format for writing should be the CW model, which is the worst you can possibly imagine.

reply

you mean "collaborative writing"?

reply

No, there's a (now-dead) tv network that used to be called the WB (Warner Brothers) that had teen dramas back in the 90s (Buffy and Charmed were some of their most famous tv shows). For some reason, they changed it's name to the CW some time in the 2010s, and its content evidently went downhill in quality very fast during that decade. Viewership got so bad that they were forced to cancel a number of their crappy shows and the network was sold to another company.

CW is now synonymous with:

- bad [woke] tv writing
- bad acting
- highly sexualized teens
- lots of LGBT representation
- shows that fail after 1-3 seasons

Some of the "finest" gems they've produced were steaming turds such as "Reign," "Riverdale," and "Batwoman." The only reason "The Flash" didn't suffer quite as quickly was because they had different writers and producers than the CW, and the actors were slightly better.

Of course, I've hated them ever since they ruined "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," nor was I a fan of Buffy, so their shows weren't all that great even in the 90s.

Oh come on now 'Reign' wasn't a "steaming turd" !

Can't wait to see LGBT representation in a Tolkien world, I am sure he was all for that.

Not.

reply

I can't wait for the series to bomb and then all the actors who were bragging just a few weeks ago start crying about being out of a job.

reply

Best way to send a message is to not watch it. They are already getting destroyed in the user ratings.

A large number. Do you have any idea of the sheer number of Sherlock Holmes novels that have been written since Doyle's death? Or Star Trek novels for that matter?

reply

That is a good point. Anyway I was wondering why this works so well with fictional worlds to keep the styles alive
and was asking it this method could be adapted to other creative areas...

reply

It could be, but would-be composers/painters/architects are discouraged by their teachers and peers.

A book that sort of relates to this topic is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Anxiety_of_Influence

Now I'll have to go off to GoodReads.com and recommend a movie. ;)
