In fact, if the show was really good people would likely forgive questionable casting decisions. Most people into sci-fi/fantasy never had trouble with non-white actors from other movies/genres (like Sgt. Apone from Aliens, Parker from Alien, Winston from Ghostbusters, Blade from...Blade, Childs and Nauls from The Thing, and so on).
