Teaser Trailer | Prime Video

Sept 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=859_NJ1D9hs

Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth's history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

It looked good. It'll be interesting to see who is playing Sauron since he's a big deal. The links below have some analysis of the various posters.

Some great things and some that have taken me out of the fantasy realm and as silly as it is - those are the elves not called Galadriel or Elrond. The short hair for reason will take me a bit to get used to. It doesnt feel totally mythic in parts. The Dwarf looks great.

I'm optimistic since they spent a ton of money on it. I'm worried that many of the actors haven't done much but some are solid. The directors have experience on multiple shows so I'm confident they'll put together a decent show. My detailed analysis of the trailer is below.

15 second mark attractive lady looks a bit raggedy. Could she be a hobbit?

22 second mark BEFORE THE KING Galadriel scaling a wall with a dagger. Very athletic moves for a female. She's
looking like a GIRL POWER warrior princess. YOU GO GIRL!

26 second mark BEFORE THE FELLOWSHIP Galadriel and Halbrand on raft. elf Arondir in forest shooting arrows

35 second mark BEFORE THE RING Fireball coming down from the sky and hitting the ground followed by guy in a gold cloak with a golden neck plate .... Annatar or Elrond? It looks like that is the actor who plays Elrond. My totally
uninformed guess is that Ben Walker will be Annatar since he has had some big roles.

37 second Blond chick in plate mail leading a charge on a white horse ... Galadriel? Shortly after, it looks like
Galadriel is in a dark cave fighting a troll

41 second mark A NEW LEGEND BEGINS THIS FALL It looks we have shots of Durin and then possibly Ben Walker looking towards the camera with an EVIL Annatar glare??? The next scene is Disa. There is also a fiery scene which could be the forging of the rings? It looks like Durin is naked in the fire and he is also seen breaking a rock. The next scenes show a couple battle scenes and a handshake to end it all.

IGN has a "expert" looking at the video explaining the characters we see:

That's a cool video and he is more knowledgeable than me. The comments from viewers are pretty good too.

Markella Kavanagh is the hot harfoot/hobbit at the :15 mark

Ben Walker is Gil-Galad and he is in gold

Elrond has the evil glare. I mixed up Ben Walker's Gil Galad and Robert Aramayo's Elrond

It looks like the fire scene is the two harfoots (hobbits) encountering a mysterious lost man with enigmatic origins.... Annatar or Gandalf ???

I wonder who is playing Annatar. Peter Mullan is one of the top names in the casting and he played the evil Jacob Snell in Ozark and he had a really bad/fake hillbilly accent.

Christ, I don't even know any of the character names nor have I read any of the books. You seem knowledgeable in them to some degree.

There are points in the lore that make the "innovations" in this show barely plausible, if one were willing to stretch things a lot.

For eg. in the canon, Galadriel is indeed one of the most willful elves among the exiles who followed Feanor back to Middle Earth, and her heart did yearn for exploration and ruling domains more than most ... but nowhere near going around in armor and fighting in the dirt with a sword.

That too barely plausible in a strictly technical sense. Because this just doesn't feel like Lord of the Rings. At all.

Just look at Thranduil and Legolas in the Hobbit movie or book even when they are in desperate situations, Elve lords portrayed by Tolkien just do not lower themselves to this level depicted in this trailer like some kind of 3rd rate adventurer with zero grace. And this is Galadriel we are talking about, when she left Valinor for Helcaraxë she was closing on 2000 years old and she was commanding the entire second Noldor branch with Fingolfin which probably numbered in the hundreds of thousands of troops. The trailer if it's depicting Helcaraxë is totally wrong.

I've read LOTR, The Hobbit and the Silmarillion BUT I never read the LOTR appendices. I was learning the names of the characters since I was trying to figure who was playing Annatar and whether the five wizards would be in the show. I was comparing the posters to the cast listed on IMDB to figure out who was who.
I just hope Lenny Henry has a minor role since I don't think he's ever stood out as an actor. It's unusual to announce the cast of a show without disclosing the characters they will portray.

This might be the story of Galadriel the girl power hero or is it the story of Annatar's rise and fall? I'd be more interested in seeing the rise and fall of Annatar since he was the primary antagonist in LOTR. Morgoth was still around in the second age so I don't if he'll be in there. The article below questions whether Morgoth would be featured in the show.

Unless they're massively changing the source material considering the few dwarves involved were working with/for Celebrimbor and Annatar (Sauron) in Eregion with the Noldor. The rings weren't MEANT for the Dwarves, they were ALL meant for the elves and were given to elven leaders, but they took them off when Sauron forged the one ring and tried to dominate their minds. The only 3 rings that were safe to wear were the 3 elven rings made only by Celebrimbor. The rest were recovered by Sauron and re-distributed to BECOME the 9 rings for mortal men, and the 7 for dwarf lords in their halls of stone, but the rings didn't work on the Dwarves either except to bring out their worse qualities like greed and suspicion. They only worked as intended on mortal men.

I can see why people are becoming pissed because Tolkein wrote very little of this era so stuff are being made up or retconned in some way.

It looks like Durin is breaking a rock so they might just be showing them mining in Moria. I'm not sure if they are making a ring in that scene. I just remember that the dwarves dug too deep in Moria and awakened a Balrog.

The Tolkien scholar said in his interview with a fan site that the Amazon show could not contradict any of the details written by Tolkien so that might explain why the show writers created new characters for various show story arcs. There is supposed to be a love story between the newly created dark elf and the newly created human female.

What is wrong with people pointing out the lore and literature that makes up the books has been massively altered to the point it is almost unrecognisable.

How dare fans complain about somthing they like. How terrible of them

reply

There is no novel (story) for the 2nd age.

reply

Irrelevant. There is established lore throughout all of the Lord of the Rings.

every place, character and locationis described in detail.

But no suprise with modern america that they just ignore thousands of years of british heritage, history and folklore

Thats not an answer by the way.

You saying that doesn;t automatically make it true no matter if you have convinced yourself.

Are you going to contribute to the discussion or just reply with buzzwords. I think it will be the later as you don't have a single intelligent thought to give.

Let me guess anyone who disagrees is racist. Am I right. That is what you will eventually say. So get it over with and go away.

It was an answer, you just don't see it that way.

By the way, I bet you don't have a problem with buzzwords like wOkE, sJw and the likes.

No it really wasn't

By the way, I bet you don't have a problem with buzzwords like wOkE, sJw and the likes.

Go check my posts on this subject I haven't used any buzzwords. Even if I did, which i didn't but so what if i did. What does that prove. Nothing really. Is that the only argument you have on the discussion. A bunch of buzzwords which you think then describes someone or how they think and feel. Yehhhhh. No.

You do like twisting things don't you.

reply

I'm not that into fantasy, but that actually looks good. I might have to get Prime when this comes out.
