"i wish it had been you"

Lol ok that scene between Logan and his mom where she accuses him of doing all the things and he tells her he wishes it was her that died was so fucking out of the blue and dumb.

I mean for one throughout the entire movie up to this point the son has shown no resentment towards his mother, none, they've had a fine relationship. Then out of the blue from 1 argument he straight up tells her "I wish it had been you" straight up tells her he wishes she was dead.

When just a few scenes prior to that they was playing a game at the diner about what they'd spend the money on if they won the lottery and he said he'd give it all to her, get her a house etc. So it was clear to me the son loved his mother and had no resentment of her.

Yet in that scene he lashes out "Dad died in front of me and you haven't even asked if i was ok!" "I wish it had been you" so out of the blue he has supposedly been feeling pissed at her for not asking if he was ok and he had wished she died instead of his dad, ok but where was there any signs of these feeling throughout the beginning of the movie?

That, my friend, is what bad writing looks like. When you're so inconsistent from scene to scene, that you can't even be bothered to pay attention to your own plot, and your own character relationships. That scene was so painful and uncomfortable to watch, like "REALLY?". The things both of them said, were just shitty as hell, and utterly pointless, other than to manufacture some needless drama at that exact point. And then that scene is almost disregarded soon after as the film plods along.

Yeah lol the next morning its like it never happened, the son shows no signs of guilt over what he said, nor does the mother show any signs of emotion from him telling her he wished she was the one who died. Its as if that scene never happened.

That just left me utterly bewildered. I mean, the whole movie he was coming across as so composed and mature and seemed to be handling things well, of course he was sad about his dad dying but there was no sign whatsoever of any kind of repressed rage, and then all of a sudden "I fucking wish it was you". And then it just vanished into the void.

I get that teenagers and people in general sometimes repress stuff that's bothering them, but usually there's some sign of it, especially in a movie like this where the viewer has to be able to understand the character. But in this one they just screwed character development altogether and made the characters be one way for much of the movie, then made them do a complete 180 for this scene, and then went right back to being the other way as if it had never happened. It was bizarre.

Yeah that scene threw me and really was the first big red flag that this was going to be a shit show.

I mean if he lashed out a bit sure, makes sense anyone woild when they are accused of stuff they didn’t do. But Jesus it boiled over into something that we had not seen at all in the movie.

Like I see bad movies that are still fun. This movie this is one of those bad movies, it’s a movie they show to people studying movie making and what not, to show what not to do.
