Only made $2.2m domestic over same period. 34/64 theaters.

China’s first large-scale sci-fi film, “Wandering Earth” came to dominate the box office over the Chinese New Year holidays – though it started from behind.

Over the full six days of the holiday, the picture earned $304 million. Some $187 million of that came over the Friday-Sunday period, making “Wandering Earth” far and away the top scoring film worldwide over the weekend.

They couldn't even cash out the main actor's $10m pay, so he agreed to work for free. And then the director asked him to instead invest $9m from his own money to help the movie's production.

The budget is pretty darn low -
I think the sfx looked pretty decent for such low budget - it's the tons of logic holes, the editing and the writing that were the main problem with this film -

Hmm - just like netflix films, good production values combined with hoooorrrible script. WTF happened to all the decent writers in this world?
