A very odd flip-flop in the story

The premise of the entire show is her trying to figure out a way to break her brother out of prison. For about 7 episodes she was relentless in her tenacity in achieving that goal. And in the last episode, it flips to her thinking he humanely needs to be put down.

I thought this rather odd writing when you consider how much work she put into manipulating and scheming just about every character in the show to save her brother. It didn't make sense to end the show this way after watching her work the other episodes.

It was a sort of odd turn in character. Though not entirely unforeseen, her relationship with the governors aide is changing her. Unfortunately, this change in her and therefore the climax of the series was made rather dull.

Its because her brother foiled her plan in breaking him out at the dance. He deceived her and killed more people which lead to the girl she loved also getting shot and almost being killed.
She realised at this point that he was beyond retribution and redemption. But she still loved him and wanted to save him from the pain of the electric chair.

I agree. The last 2 episodes seemed out of place and designed for the creation of a second season. My main problem was that Ed was setup as a guy who only went after those who had done evil against him and Mildred. All of a sudden they spun him out as a serial killer. It did not track with the established narrative.
