He's fundamentally nothing like the character in the comics or even the previous movie iterations of the character. They pretty much just slapped the Joker name on an art-house movie to sell tickets. Well, it definitely worked.

HIS MOST WELL KNOWN ORIGIN CAME 48 YEARS AFTER HIS BIRTH...DURING THE 80S...THE ENTIRE THING BECOMES PROBLEMATIC WHEN TRANSLATING IT FOR ANY MEDIUM AS FANS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE AN WHAT THEY EXPECT FROM IT.

shareI agree completely. Phoenix’s performance was great and all, but The Joker is supposed to be a genius criminal mastermind, not a creepy weirdo who acts like a child.

shareI thought it was a Joker movie, but not a Batman movie. It just had the Wayne characters become involved. Thomas Wayne was portrayed as a rich a-hole caricature who caused a man having psychological issues and trying to find the truth about his parents go off the deep end. This was due to the actions of the rich and those associated with the rich. It doesn't exactly make sense, but the social and wealth chasm is enough to send the rich into a stir when confronted by him. Arthur Fleck causes intentional and unintentional grief for those close to him as he tried to find out his roots and learn from it.
