shareHow the fuck is this confusing for you? Sophie, his "girlfriend" was only his girlfriend in his head. He imagined they were together. In reality she barely knew his name. Really, this is made abundantly clear in the movie.

shareAgree with the others, it was all in his head..... only other scene that MIGHT be real was at the comedy club. He could have asked her to come see him. And after a while people did laugh at his jokes, that was not in his head, if you read the movie plot, it does say the audience warmed up to him after the crazy laughter outbursts..... so the scene with her at the club i believe could be real.
