The ghosts could have let him out

I know for the sake of the movie they couldn't, or we'd have a very short movie lol.

But it was established they could see the house (one tells him The Grabber is the top of the stairs, which could be argued she knew from prior experience and trying to escape, but then another tells Finney he is watching him). And they can move things (when one ghost spins the glass bottle to point in a specific direction). So would it really have been a stretch that they could have opened the basement door for Finney when knowing that The Grabber wasn't home?

I'm not trying to find a plothole, every movie has them, just wondering if I missed anything that would contradict this happening?
