Saw a Screening

It was OK. Not as good as Sinister, but better than Deliver Us From Evil. Ethan Hawke was great and the kid actors were good as well. Not really a horror film and more of a thriller with some supernatural elements. It had some creepy/tense moments, but not really scary at all. It felt like a film that had a lot of cool ideas, but needed to be longer or another rewrite of the script to really flesh them out.

Overall, I'd give it a 5 or 6/10? Worth a watch, but not something you need to rush to theaters and see.

Is it a sequel to Sinister or something completely different? I only remember bits and pieces of Sinister from awhile back.

reply

It's completely different.

The discussions on how it measures against Sinister are due to it being from the same production company, director, writer, leading actor and film editor as Sinister. The Black Phone is basically from the team that brought us Sinister.

There was a Sinister 2, though.
