Tarantino’s most personal film = boring

While I was watching this film, I was very aware that Tarantino was a guy who worked in a video store and then became famous.

In this film, allegedly his most personal, he doesn’t really seem like he has much to say other than blasting his audience with his self-satisfied musings on cinema.

I enjoy him as a filmmaker, but as a person, Tarantino kind of bores me.

I liked this film, especially because of the last bit (of course).
I like Tarantino in general as a filmmaker.
I agree with you: parts of this movie were boring and had its meaning only in Tarantino's movie nerd culture.
But the story he was covering is centered on a movie actress and her hollywood friends, famous director husband, and murder in her hollywood house, so I like that he focused on that aspect (the hollywood society of those years) rather than the fuckers that killed her (who are not interesting to begin with).
So even if I missed lots of the references (but still got many), I feel glad I was shown an interesting world that is usually left out of this story to focus instead on pieces of shits that don't deserve 1 second of our attention.

Yeah, but the entire film is more of a thinly-veiled metaphor for Tarantino’s views on cinema and movie trivia, as opposed to a genuine take on the life of Sharon Tate and the Manson Family.

As I was watching this film, I was imagining how boring it would be to listen to Tarantino yammer on and on about his favourite films and his obscure vinyl collection.
