That's basically the point of this near 3 hour movie. I'm surprised he wrote what is essentially a love letter here whereas there were so many controversial topics to Hollywood in the 60's and 70's that he could have offered an opinion on. What he essentially gives us here would be bland for any other director and I would say for him as well.

It's Nostalgia, which is just a word for wanting to be young again. QT is finding out the hard truth; you can't go back.

It is why Hollywood Boulevard is known as 'The Boulevard of Broken Dreams'. I live on Hollywood Boulevard and I see it every day. But I still see the hope in those dreams too. It's the dreams that help us wake up in the morning.
