What Once Was Quentin
I'm pretty sure Quentin is at the most nostalgic point in his life. This movie is about what once was, which in his eyes was the golden era of Hollywood. Nowadays the banks have taken over Hollywood and cast a lot of his friends aside. Quentin is now a married middle aged man with an extra 50 instead of that thin energetic boy wonder that once ruled L.A. Now he's living vicariously through the ageless Brad Pitt and Leo. Driving his yellow mustang through the narrow, winding roads up to his palatial home overlooking Universal Studios on Mulholland drive isn't much fun anymore. Nor is it fun having a drink at the pool while looking at another meek sunset through the L.A. smog, especially with the wife constantly in his ear. Quentin loves her but it's hard to explain what it was like during those early, heady days of just trying to survive in Hollywood. Although the never-ending home repair and outrageous property tax bills are easily affordable, the incessant texts and emails from the accountant saps more and more energy each day. The parties are painful reminders of an old, bad back and the studio(aka bank) meetings are hate-crimes. Another press tour looms, it'll be good to escape the house for awhile, if only the body will hold up.
Quentin's old job at the video store seems like so long ago.
