Did anyone else find Gal Gadot's voice jarring?
Having NOT seen the first film, the most weird and oddly distracting thing in this movie was that Gal Gadot delivered all her lines in her natural Israeli accent, and she has a rather flat and hoarse speaking voice, and didn't put much emotion or acting range into it until the climax of the movie. It felt especially "off" in the "love" scenes with Chris Pine and the highway action scene where she sounded like she was back home in Tel Aviv loudly reading a phone book or something.
Now, mind you, I KNEW the actress was Israeli going into this film, but I expected her to sound a little different in a Hollywood film. A lot of people from Israel have no problem "Americanizing" their voice, you'd never know Benjamin Netanyahu or Natalie Portman are "from Israel" from the way they sound when making the rounds in the United States, and that's just in public, not portraying a fictional character.
Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman" was on the level of seeing David Tennant cast as "Dick Tracy" and instead of actually playing that character, he just spent the entire movie doing his natural real-life Scottish accent and personality that he normally never uses unless he's actually playing scottish characters (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LozPJl1MPcc) , or if they hired Emily Browning to portray Scarlett O'Hara and she spent the entire movie blandly talking in her regular Australian accent, the way she normally only sounds when back home in Australia like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_mTtOFs1oE
Gal Gadot, cute girl, certainly LOOKS like Wonder Woman, and they got the costume RIGHT... but man I didn't buy her actually PORTRAYING that character. Lynda Carter remains the gold standard!
