Monotone line delivery

Like a lot of modern actors, the guy who plays Justin has a consistent mumbling, monotone, deadpan line delivery. This created some unintentionally funny moments, like when he was trying to sound threatening. Even the actress who played Rhiannon was too monotone at times. And it was hard to understand mumbling, vocal fry Debby Ryan.

This type of modern line delivery is unnatural and ruins otherwise decent movies and TV. The voice is used to express emotion in real life, so why do we now have this trend of lifeless script-reading in movies and TV? Also part of this trend is the mumbling, often so bad that viewers have to turn on subtitles. It’s much easier to understand actors in older movies and TV, generally speaking.
