This set in 1998 ?

Just watched the first episode , in the opening sequence it says Romania 1983 , since she's 16 it should be 1998-1999 right ? But the it shows a tablet computer and advanced technology , in '98? Am i missing something ? Also the Audi model shown at the beginning in 1983 wasn't built until the 90's.

This is definitely set in the 2000's since they say it in ep.2 , then why at the beginning says 1983? Unless there is time travel involved i'm a little confused

Look again. Romania, 2003. You must've misread it. Hanna was born in 2003 and was 15 in the show's present, which would be 2018. Later on we see the mother's gravestone and it says 1980-2003 (she was 23 years old when she died).

Hi, Chris, it’s good to see you back; we’ve been losing too many good posters because of all the angry, ignorant energy over here. What a shock, seeing you defending another good TV series. Did you see the movie? One of my favorites. Saoirse Ronan is the best actress of her generation.

Yes the movie is also one of my favorites and in my opinion Saoirse was better suited for the role

Saoirse Ronan is indeed an amazingly talented actress. I liked the movie version of Hanna a lot. So I had my fingers crossed hoping they'd do a good job with the series, and was generally pleased with the result.

At the beginning it seems like they're following the movie script exactly. But first a few small details, then more and more significant aspects of the plot diverge as the story unfolds, and it ends up in a very different place. I don't want to give away too much to people who haven't watched it all yet. But for one thing Marissa Wiegler is a more nuanced character in the series. With seven hours and change to develop the characters and the story instead of only two, deeper dives are a given.

Without spoiling it, does the story end with the last episode or leaves it open for a second season?

Oh you could leave it there if the show wasn't renewed, but it's very much open for a second season. There's a lot more in the way of open questions and bigger threats to come than the movie left us with. I'd be disappointed not to see the story continue (I'm guessing we will though).
