As another poster said, your early supposition for something you've never even seen is way off. This version of Hanna has been a while in the making, based on the original 2011 film with Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett, and Eric Bana. If it follows the original film even a little bit, it will be nothing like Stranger Things. I can't imagine what possibly had you thinking that.

Netflix streaming is all about original content. Like Amazon Prime, it's their main business model. Don't expect either of them to change.

If you really care about films, then you are still subscribed to Netflix disc service (it's how they started before streaming was a thing, what they still have, though some refer to it as dvd.com).

I once thought about stopping the disc part of my Netflix subscription, but then compared my Netflix disc queue to their streaming offerings -- only a very small percentage of my queue was offered on streaming. And that was years ago.

Unlike Netflix, the Amazon business model was never about films first and foremost, for renting or digital rights (of course they still sell hard copies). And today they compete with Netflix and others for original content. Other folk are now crowding onto that platform, such as CBS Access, and officially announced these week, late-comer-to-streaming Apple. So this isn't a trend that's likely to go away.

So please judge this new show Hanna on its own merits, not on the business model of the medium you're watching it on.

I don't know how you can compare this with Stranger Things, simply because they both feature a young female character with special abilities. Hanna's genetic enhancements are within the realm of plausibility. She's smarter, faster, stronger, with improved sense acuity and reaction time - but to a realistic degree. She can't lift a car one handed, zip across the room in a blur, hear a pin drop two miles away, or heal before your eyes. And we've seen that she has difficulty in high stimulation environments. Flashing lights, loud music, and people crammed together all around her were like sensory overload. She learned to use alcohol to damp that down and make it tolerable.

Cross a coming of age drama with an espionage action thriller and you get Hanna. It's nothing like Stranger Things, or Game of Thrones (although Hanna does remind me a bit of Arya Stark).

TV is better now that it's ever been, especially with these streaming platforms. No matter how unusual or particular your taste in programming, you can find multiple shows to your liking. In fact the biggest problem isn't a lack of content you like. It's the needle in a haystack problem of finding that content in a mountain of new series that are constantly dropping left and right.

Not as much as the show "Weirder Stuff"!
