Disappointing
Perhaps inevitably for a Tom Hanks/CNN production, the anti-war and civil rights movements and progressive wing of the Democrat party are shown very sympathetically and their political opponents unsympathetically. There aren ‘t many conservative voices to balance the many liberal commentators. Patrick Buchanan is a notable exception but he’s not exactly from the mainstream of the Republican Party, though he did work for Nixon.
I thought it was weird that Tom Hanks, the executive producer of the series, filmed himself as a commentator. I’d have thought creative/editorial control of the program would have provided him with enough voice.
Most of the the archival footage seems to be from CBS News and former CBS news anchor Dan Rather appears frequently to provide commentary.
