I keep seeing comments on the new trailer about how Shaw killed Han, but now he's all buddy buddy with everyone. However everyone seems to forget that pretty much all the main characters have killed before and not just innocence. Not only that, but you can't really tell me Shaw didn't have a just cause to kill Han since Han was part of the crew that killed his brother.
Yeap, I thought the very same when I watched the previous movies. The series makes you root for the main characters, and it does it very well... but if you step back, they're just a bunch criminals who don't care about the law or anyone else but their own. They'd rather avoid killing innocent people, true... but hey, without much effort. You wanna drive at 200 km/h in the middle of a city? you do. A kid just crosses the street? well, too bad for him, speed limits are not for me.
They're a gang and nothing more: only my family matters, fuck the law.
And O'Conner (Paul Walker) was just an agent that betrayed his duty because of the pussy of the gang boss's sister.
F&F is just a gang story told from the point of view of the gang members.
Exactly which is completely fine by me, but people are making it out like they're some how better than Shaw. If you're gonna hold Shaw to a standard you should hold the whole crew to that standard as well.
I don't consider Shaw/Statham to be part of the group aka family. He is more of an ally now. But if he is actually family now from Dom's POV, I guess he did kind of earn it in a way. Dom pretty much put him to the test to earn his spot by saving his son. Dom was pretty desperate to get his son back. So I see it as "get my son back, and I'll forgive you for killing Han." But when Shaw was first confronted by the group when Mr. Nobody revealed that Shaw would be helping them, Shaw did tell them he didn't care about the family and didn't really want to be part of it. But maybe he is willing to be an ally to them now and put aside differences. Plus he did save Ramsey and had that moment with her afterwards (afterwards moment in the Extended Cut). So that was good character development for Shaw, and helped the others accept him a little more. But maybe he just wants to be an ally to the group and not so much "family" to them. I am glad though that Shaw is a good guy now since I like Statham. And I was liking Shaw more when watching him and Hobbs/The Rock interact. But maybe Dom has forgiven him and put him through a test, which he passed. So maybe if Dom accepts him and forgives him, then it's okay for the viewers to accept Shaw and let it go that he killed Han (one of the coolest/likable characters in the Fast & Furious movies). And maybe Shaw is misunderstood since he does seem to have a good side to him. "You were going to shoot a baby? You sick bastard." along with his interactions with Dom's son. I think Shaw saving Dom's son was kind of his redemption story arc.
I personally don't mind that Shaw is an ally or part of the family now. The point I was trying to make was that the core group isn't any better than Shaw is, but people just ignore it because they're the main characters.
