lasted 5 minutes before turning off

utter sh*te.

reply

you only watched 5 minutes of it before claiming the whole movie is shit? yea, you're an idiot.

reply

Look up sunk cost fallacy, sport

reply

I learned that term from Bill Maher. Ah, gotta love gypsy fortune tellers.

reply

Did they claim the whole movie is shit? Or did you just assume that? How do you know they weren't referencing the 5 minutes that they watched? You know what they say about assumptions.

reply

The post literally said he turned it off after 5 minutes of watching. So your post makes absolutely no sense. You can go ahead and fuck off now buddy. Thanks.

reply

Are you a spastic? His entire post consists of 2 fucking words and neither of them are "whole" or "movie" while the thread title definitely references "5 minutes", now back to remedial class little spastic.

reply

I saw the first one, which let's face it was utter crap. It was obvious from the word go that nothing new was going to happen... Then you saw the children done up like sex objects to garner the interests of the saddos who like films like Big ammas House, I knew instinctively to turn off.

reply

Yup. It was one big KFC commercial. I'd feel insulted If I were black.

reply

I probably would have turned it off if I wasn't watching with other people. It was a total snooze.

reply

I lasted to the scene where Eddie's son was lecturing the white dude about how boys don't need a father figure. I can take the boredom and terrible jokes, but if you want to clumsily push your toxic ideology onto your audience instead of telling a story, then f*** you, bye.

reply

Now I know I won't be watching it, thank you! FFS I loved the original when I was a youngun too.

reply

LOL... really? When fatherless homes are at an all time high in the black community (responsible for the most crime per capita in the West)?

Wow, they really want to stay at the bottom of the cultural ladder of civility, I guess.

reply

man, you write "lol" and then try and be taken seriously???

reply

Nothing after the "lol" is in dispute, and coincides with my criticism of the film related to cultural issues plaguing a certain group of people.

Try focusing on that instead of baiting with a non-sequitur.

reply

Explain why you write "lol"???? Why??? It is totally absurd.

reply

You don't know how to lol?. Evolution is a bitch!

reply

Omg that sounds horrible

the scene where Eddie's son was lecturing the white dude about how boys don't need a father figure.

This could be viewed as Lavelle's knee-jerk defense of his culture, which he secretly knows has some serious issues and needs improvement. We all tend to do this when it comes to our culture or subculture, especially when we're young. This would explain why Lavelle ultimately becomes a Zamundan ambassador to America (to help improve his people & culture in the USA with his newfound identity, heritage & resources). The fact that Lavelle accepts Akeem in the father role and travels to Zamunda tends to support this. Of course you could argue that Lavelle was only interested in Akeem's wealth, but his character as illustrated in the rest of the movie reveals that he was more spiritual than that; plus he naturally wanted to solve the mystery of his absent father and even wanted a father.

I didn't get any further past this scene into the movie, so I can't comment. But the scene in question was clearly framed in such a way that it was a lecture to the audience, to such an extent that it made me cringe.

reply

I know where you're coming from and I considered that eye-rolling possibility but, from viewing the movie as a whole, I believe it supports the position stated above. In short, it's not that one-dimensional. (Let's give credit where it's due). Lavelle's well-meaning but cringe-inducing lecture simply showed he was struggling with insecurity about his upbringing and so he was naturally defensive of his culture. But he "protest-eth too much."

reply

I watched it all! I'm jealous you were smart enough to end it early.

reply

I got through it. Didnt like it.

Wonder Woman 84, I could not get through.

reply

I forced myself to make it 30 or so, kept thinking this has to get better, should have stopped at 5 like you. What garbage.
